There are close to 400 million podcasts out there and that number is growing every day. The word is out that podcasting is one of the best platforms to connect with your ideal audience, so of course, everyone wants in on it. So how do you know what it’s time for you to start a podcast?
If you’ve been considering starting a podcast, now is a great time to do it. More people than ever are tuning in to podcasts week after week and it’s only going to continue to grow in popularity, but how do you know when it’s time to start a podcast?
There are a number of signs that indicate it could be time to start your own podcast and start sharing your voice and building your brand. Here are some of the top ones:
You have a unique perspective
When it comes to podcasting, if you want to stand out, you’re going to want to offer something that other podcasts don’t. Now, that doesn’t mean that you have to know secrets in the industry that no one else knows—though that would help—it just means that you have a unique take on things. Even if there are already several podcasts on your topic, they don’t have your perspective. Your experiences, expertise, and personality will set you apart from the rest as long as you are ready to lean into it.
You have expertise that people need
Podcasting is fun, but if you want to really leverage it, you want to make sure it is on a topic that people are interested in. Do you have the knowledge that your ideal audience is looking for? If so, this is a clear indication that it’s time to hit record.
You can solve a problem
Think about the things your friends, family, or audience ask you all the time. Are you always answering the same questions and solving the same problems for them? If so, there’s a very good chance that there are thousands of other people looking to have that problem solved as well and you could be just the person to do it with your podcast.
Your business could benefit from a podcast
If you’re a business owner, you’re likely always looking for ways to market your products or services, and a podcast is a great way to do that. It builds brand awareness, relationships, and trust with your ideal audience. You can offer tons of value and then include a call to action that will inevitably grow your business in each episode.
You have the ability to be consistent
Podcasting isn’t for the faint of heart…kidding, sort of. Podcasting is a big commitment. Pod-fade is a real thing. We see it all the time. People start their podcasts and they are super inspired and then slowly they fade out. You don’t want to do that! If you want to build a podcast with raving fans, you need to be ready to show up for them. Show up on the days you say you will, and don’t let them down! If you are prepared to show up for your people and be consistent, even when things come up, then it might be time for you to start your podcast.
If you have any of these qualities, it could mean it’s time for you to finally get behind the mic and start your show. Remember, you have a unique value to offer to your listeners and your ideal audience can’t wait to hear from you.
