What’s different about podcasting in 2025, and what do you need to know to stay ahead of the curve? Let’s talk about some of the changes that are already in motion or that we can expect to see unfold this year. 2024 brought some major growth and changes to podcasting, and today there are more shows and more listeners than ever. This blog post will help you prepare for the year ahead by getting familiar with all the current trends and developments in podcasting.

More Audience-Centered Content

Podcasting in 2025 is all about the audience experience. Personalized listening experiences are becoming more achievable with advancements in technology. Consumers of online content across the board want to be more connected and involved. Engaging with your audience needs to be part of your plan this year. Encourage reviews and feedback, respond to comments on social media, and watch this space to see what podcasting platforms come out with. I think we can expect to see more customizable feeds and more potential for audience interaction.

Actionable Tip: Conduct surveys or polls to better understand your audience’s preferences and create content inspired by their responses. Invite them to be part of the process!

A New Focus on Community Building

A natural follow-up to more focus on audience is the building of community. People are seeking human connection now more than ever, which is why the podcasting industry continues to grow and grow. As platforms explore the potential for audience interaction, imagine the possibilities! Live Q&As, polls, and feedback could allow your listeners to be more involved than ever, fostering a sense of community centered around your podcast. Local communities, meetups, and in-person collaborations are also on the rise, offering the opportunity to expand your community beyond the digital world.

Actionable Tip: Consider incorporating live Q&A sessions using tools already available to you, such as group messages or comment sections on social media.

The Rise of Video

Video is set to revolutionize podcasting in 2025. In recent years, I’ve encouraged my clients to incorporate video into their marketing content as video has continued to rise in popularity and been prioritized by online platforms. Well, podcast platforms are no different. Spotify’s Clips are their answer to short-form video, and they’ve reported that they are “33% more effective than previews at converting browsers into potential listeners.” In the same article, they hinted that they have something in the works for the future of video on their platform, teasing that they’re “continuing to invest in ways to make the viewing experience more seamless.” YouTube has been in the video podcast game for a while now, and other platforms want a piece of the pie. I do not think we’ve seen the end of developments in video podcasting.

Actionable Tip: Grab video clips from your episodes or record quick behind-the-scenes snippets to upload as clips or promotional content on social media.

More AI Integrations

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is growing fast, and while we’ve already seen some AI podcast tools emerge, things are just heating up. In 2025, expect to see AI integrations that enhance the podcast experience for both creators and listeners. From automated transcription services and workflows to personalized recommendations based on listener preferences, AI will streamline podcast production and improve discoverability. We might face some hurdles with the emergence of AI-generated content, but it will never beat authentic human connection. So, don’t stop doing what you do!

Actionable Tip: Research AI podcast tools and maybe even play around with some. Whether you choose to add any to your process or not, it’s a good idea to know what’s available and how it’s shaping the podcast landscape.

Enhanced Discoverability

With millions of podcasts available today, discoverability is a growing concern for many creators. Podcast platforms are aware of this and are actively working on improving their search engines and recommendation algorithms. With this in mind, your search engine optimization (SEO) is more important than ever. SEO keywords in your titles and descriptions will make you more visible in search results. This makes it easier for new listeners to find your podcast.

Actionable Tip: Optimize your podcast’s metadata by using relevant keywords in your episode titles and descriptions. Additionally, keep your keywords in mind when publishing show notes and other content about your podcast, creating a wider online presence.

New Analytics Tools on the Market

With Chartable closing its doors at the end of 2024, many of us were left looking for equivalent analytics tools to replace it with. While I don’t know of anything quite as good to recommend just yet, I’m confident that we’re going to see a whole new world of data tracking programs in the near future. We can anticipate new and improved tools that give us more insight into listener behavior, demographics, engagement metrics, and more. This data will help you make informed decisions about your content strategy and tailor your episodes to your specific audience.

Actionable Tip: Familiarize yourself with the analytics tools that you have access to right now. Brainstorm a few episode ideas based on your findings!

Interactive and Personalized Ads

You can bet that advertisers will be keen to jump on the trends of audience-centered content and interaction. Advertisers are recognizing the power of targeted ads that align with the interests of specific podcast audiences. We know that it’s easier now to show specific ads to specific audiences with dynamic ad insertion, and developers are sure to continue experimenting with tools like this to get the best results for podcasters and advertisers. This means more monetization opportunities for you and more relevant content for your listeners! It’s a win-win.

Actionable Tip: If you’ve never tried dynamic ads, give it a go! It’s an effective way to keep your ads more relevant and engaging.

Closing Thoughts

There are going to be some exciting changes to podcasting in 2025, and I can’t wait to see what they look like. Keep an eye out for the latest updates surrounding audience-centric content, community building, video, AI, discoverability, analytics tools, and interactive ads. Podcasting is going to be more popular than ever, which is super exciting!
